SoMad proudly presents Encuentro, a Latinx film screening that seeks to foster connection after a long year of isolation.
As New York City opens up after a long year of quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic, initiatives that aid connection are key. Encuentro is a free film screening and gathering that seeks to foster connection. After months of isolation, finding comfort in public gatherings has challenged the way we interact with one another. Taking the Spanish concept of “Encuentro” (which translates to finding one another), the screening will be an opportunity for people to connect and find each other through art. The screening will feature five Latinx artists: Paula Cury, Alejandro Alviar, Noah Ortega, Galeana Fraiz and Doménica García, celebrating Latinx heritage. The event will feature a wide range of films ranging from documentary, narrative and experimental genres, followed by a live music performance and reception.
