Destinie Adélakun is a celebrated Canadian artist and filmmaker with roots in West Africa and South India. As a multidisciplinary creator, she weaves together photography, film, painting, textiles, and sculpture to honor the narratives of the African and Caribbean diaspora.

Her artistry is a vibrant tapestry of matriarchal ideologies, pre-colonial histories, and spiritual mythologies from Africa and South Asia, challenging Eurocentric narratives and uplifting the diaspora. Through her work, Destinie aims to empower and celebrate the women of the African diaspora, using adornment as a key element in her creative expression. Her films are deeply informed by her commitment to social justice, identity, and ancestry. Recognized for her significant contributions, Destinie was honored with the Canadian Women Artist of the Year Award in 2020 by the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Breakthrough Artist Award by the Toronto Arts Foundation in 2024.
