Xana Whoria's most recent performance at SoMad explores the complexities of navigating the ever-growing drag scene in NYC.

"Coming up in the scene quickly last year, I struggled to keep up with the name I built for myself in nightlife through this current year. As an alternative genderqueer performer, I often felt pressured or expected to fit into the typical "drag queen" mold I was never meant to fit into. I am learning to stay true to my art and not give into the pressure of keeping up. I will always appreciate what drag has given me as a means to express myself, and will forever hold onto that for years to come. This performance is a nod to the feelings of fading into the background in an ever-growing, fast-paced scene."
