Synopsis: Set in a village in Burundi made of computer parts, Neptune Frost centers on the relationship between Neptune, an intersex runaway, and Matalusa, a coltan miner, whose love leads a hacker collective. Directed by Saul Williams and Anisia Uzeyman, the film uses the musical genre to embrace oral tradition and song-poetry deep in the roots of African history and modern culture. The narrative structure unfolds through musical and rhetorical allegories that acknowledge themes of patriarchy and feminist science fiction literature.
Content note: This film features depictions of violence and exploitation.
Dyke Cinema Club is a film screening and community centering LGBTQ women, non-binary, and trans folks in Brooklyn, NY. Their mission is to increase visibility for films with queer characters and themes, as a tool of self-discovery and connection with each other and the world. Fostering an intimate vibe, Dyke Cinema Club travels around to people’s living rooms, backyards, and rooftops.
In 2022, Leanna Garfield (she/they) started DCC as a way to connect with other queer folks who love film. Growing up — before she even came out to herself — dykes on screen showed her stories of what could be, and what's possible. With DCC, she aims to screen films that definitely pass the Bechdel test, but probably haven't gotten as much visibility as they deserve. Join DCC for queer films, themed concessions, and of course, kind dykes.
