A friend and frequent collaborator of SoMad's, Lester Mayers's performance style animates and elevates poetic language from page to stage. Exile: The Final Love Poem not only marks the conclusion of Mayers's poetry in concert series, but also promises to transport us beyond imagination with live instrumentations in collaboration with talented artists Brandon Bera, Matt Carvin, Keturah Jordan, and Christopher James Talio. Special guest Arewà Basit is joining the lineup as the show stopping opening performer. Mayers plans to retire from performance following this show, making this a can't-miss event!

Lester Eugene Mayers is an extraordinary individual who has left an indelible mark in various storytelling domains. His exceptional talent, unyielding determination, and magnetic charisma have entranced audiences and served as a source of inspiration for countless individuals. As an accomplished artist, cross-discipline professor at Ramapo College and Minneapolis College of Art & Design, forward-thinking entrepreneur, devoted philanthropist, and avant-garde director, Lester continues to redefine the limits of possibility. His infectious zest for life and unwavering pursuit of excellence make him not just a person but a beacon of innovation, a resolute spirit, and a positive transformation warrior of freedom.

In 2019, Mayers delivered a mesmerizing one-night-only concert, "100 Poems For 100 Voices: Live in the Moment," which received widespread acclaim and solidified his position as a leading figure in the poetry industry. He was honored with two Forty under Forty awards from both Alma maters in the same year, along with two NYS citations, and gained admission into Naropa University's Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. There, he obtained his MFA with a focus on the autobiography of African American Language.
